Coach Gehmlich has played volleyball since she was 11 years old. She was a USA Volleyball 2nd Team All-American by the time she was 13. She was a CIF All-State selection by the time she was 14. She was a four year starter on the Granada High School varsity team, and while there claimed 4 league championships (undefeated), 3 NCS championships, competed in CIF playoffs every year, finishing 2nd in state her Freshmen year. She earned a full-ride scholarship to top ranked Brigham Young University where she continued to have success. She started all four years, first as a setter, then as a defensive specialist. During her career, BYU earned 3 conference titles, 4 NCAA appearances, three of those Final Eight appearances. Two years consecutively (96-97), Gehmlich earned first team all-conference honors, and defensive Player of the Year.
Gehmlich graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology with a Coaching Minor. She went on to be an Assistant Coach for the Women’s Volleyball team at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Her specialty in the gym was to |
work with setters and defensive players. After 2 years at UNLV, Gehmlich took a short break from volleyball to serve an 18 month mission in Germany for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Upon return, Gehmlich got back in the gym, coaching the boys varsity volleyball team at her high school alma mater. She led that team to their first ever NCS appearance in two short years. Thereafter she went back to school and earned her multiple subject teaching credential in German, and became a high school German Teacher. Last fall, 2015, Gehmlich was hired on to be the Girls Varsity Head Coach and shortly thereafter accepted the Boys Varsity Head Coach position as well. Throughout her volleyball career, Gehmlich has coached multiple club teams, high school teams, and camps. She is passionate about the game and has a love of teaching. She has enjoyed coaching both the boys and girls varsity teams at MHHS in their inaugural varsity year. She is excited to see the players develop and the program improve! |
